My Top 10 Favorite Harry Potter Moments!

Hello, readers!

Welcome to day 6 of Harry Potter Week on Reviews by Hannah!

This will be the second to last post in Harry Potter Week, so that I can make a post on Sunday about the Cursed Child book release!

For today’s post, I will be listing out my top 10 favorite Harry Potter moments!

Let’s get started!

10. Hermione punches Malfoy (Prisoner of Azkaban)

“Look at him blubber! Have you ever seen anything quite as pathetic?” said Malfoy. “And he’s supposed to be our teacher!”
Harry and Ron both made furious moves toward Malfoy, but Hermione got there first — SMACK!
She had slapped Malfoy across the face with all the strength she could muster. Malfoy staggered. Harry, Ron, Crabbe, and Goyle stood flabbergasted as Hermione raised her hand again.
“Hermione!” said Ron weakly, and he tried to grab her hand as she swung it back.
“Get off, Ron!”
Hermione pulled out her wand. Malfoy stepped backward. Crabbe and Goyle looked at him for instructions, thoroughly bewildered.
“C’ mon,” Malfoy muttered, and in a moment, all three of them had disappeared into the passageway to the dungeons.

I mean, who doesn’t love this scene?

9. The first appearance of Tom Riddle (Chamber of Secrets)

“Voldemort,” said Riddle softly, “is my past, present, and future, Harry Potter.”

I freaking love this scene. It sends chills down my spine in the movie, and when I read it. I’m not the biggest fan of Chamber of Secrets, but this scene is an A+ scene.

8. Harry’s first Christmas at Hogwarts (Sorcerer’s Stone)

Christmas was coming. One morning in mid-December, Hogwarts woke to find itself covered in several feet of snow. The lake froze solid and the Weasley twins were punished for bewitching several snowballs so that they followed Quirrell around, bouncing off the back of his turban. The few owls that managed to battle their way through the stormy sky to deliver mail had to be nursed back to health by Hagrid before they could fly off again.

This scene is absolutely beautiful in the movies, and it just sounds so magical in the books, that I can’t help but love it.

7. The Department of Mysteries battle (Order of the Phoenix)

Did you actually believe, or are you truly naive enough to think, that children stood a chance against us? I’ll make this simple for you, Potter. Give me the prophecy now… or watch your friends die.

This is probably my favorite battle in the series, which is saying a lot with all of the battles in Deathly Hallows, but it’s so exciting and there’s so many good scenes within it so it makes it onto my top 10 list.

6. Yule Ball (Goblet of Fire)

The Yule Ball is of course a chance for us all to — er — let our hair down.

I love the Yule Ball scene, and everything about it. It’s such a fun scene in the midst of a lot of drama and uneasiness, and it was exactly what that book needed.

5. The Seven Potters (Deathly Hallows)

That’s him, it’s him, it’s the real one!

This scene was just really funny to me (until the battle) and I just really like it because it actually was a very well-written battle scene and just a good opening scene for the book.

4. The Tale of the Three Brothers (Deathly Hallows)

“Death had an Invisibility Cloak?

Sometimes he gets tired of running at people flapping his arms and shrieking—sorry Hermione.

This scene is mainly because of the movie because I could watch the animation for hours and still be in love with it. The book version is a little less magical but still one of my favorites because it made me laugh with Ron’s interjections.

3. Harry’s first Quidditch match (Sorcerer’s Stone)

“Ron and Hermione joined Neville, Seamus, and Dean the West Ham fan up in the top row. As a surprise for Harry, they had painted a large banner on one of the sheets Scabbers had ruined. It said Potter for President.”

This scene is just so heartwarming for me because it shows the friendship between Ron, Hermione, and Harry for the first time in a wide scope. It’s also a fan’s first immersion into Quidditch, and it feels very magical the first time that you read it.

2. Malfoy Manor (Deathly Hallows)

Harry Potter, Dobby has come to rescue you.

This scene breaks my heart in a million and one ways: Dobby’s death, Hermione’s torture, and Ron’s emotional breakdown in the cellar. But it shows how deep the friendship is between Ron, Harry, and Hermione and the lengths they will go to to protect each other. It is also a rare moment that we get to see Draco’s desire to save someone other than himself when he lies about recognizing Harry and the group. It’s just a really amazing scene, and heartbreaking at the same time.

1. The epilogue (Deathly Hallows)

It’s me. I’m extremely famous.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a big fan of the Harry Potter next generation. I love the idea of the story continuing on in the children of the trio and that’s a big reason why I’m so excited for Cursed Child. Plus, this scene is just so funny to me and I love it so much and don’t even get me started on the movie version because they completely butchered it and in my opinion that doesn’t even exist. So the book version of the epilogue is definitely my favorite Harry Potter moment out of all seven books.

And that’s it for my top 10 favorite Harry Potter moments!

Let me know your favorite moments in the comments!

A Beginner’s Guide to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

Hello, readers!

Welcome to day 5 of Harry Potter Week!

For those of you who don’t know (probably all of you), I’ve been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida twice. Once for the Hogsmeade portion on a school trip (they didn’t have Diagon Alley back then), and then once for both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.

For those of you who hope to plan a trip to the theme park, I made this nice little list of do’s and don’t’s for you to think about on your trip.

Note that this is not a definitive guide to the park and I am most definitely not an expert. I’ve never worked at the park or anything like that, I’m simply a big fan and I hope to go back to make a lot more memories there.

So let’s get started!

1. DO take lots of pictures

This one should be a given.

Between both parks, there is SO MUCH to see. There’s a zero percent chance that you’re going to remember it all. So take a camera (or just your phone, even) and take pictures of everything. I have over five hundred pictures of my day at the park, and I get to relive it every time I look at the pictures. So take as many pictures as you want, no one is going to be judging you for nerding out a little, especially if it’s your first trip there.

2. DON’T be discouraged by the lines

Let’s be real: this place is a popular place. The lines are a bit crazy long, but the park is so well managed that the lines feel like they take ten minutes instead of an hour. I waited in line by myself for two and half hours for a ride and there was so much to look at and amazing people to talk to in line that it felt so much shorter.

3. DO try to ride the rides

20150602_134812

I know some people with disabilities aren’t able to ride the rides, but if you are capable of riding the rides, please give them a try.

These rides are my favorite rides of any amusement park I’ve ever been to. When I first went, I thought Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey was the best ride that I’ve ever been on. Now after my second trip, I think Escape from Gringotts is the best ride I’ve ever ridden. I’ve also ridden Flight of the Hippogriff and Dragon Challenge and while they’re pretty typical amusement park rides, they’re still really fun to ride with the rest of the fans there.

4. DON’T be pushy

This goes back to this being a very crowded place. Sometimes people get too close because there is simply nowhere else for them to go. No one likes when someone starts trying to push their way through the crowd to get to a ride or a restaurant before everyone else. Just smile, be kind, and wait your turn. Try striking up a conversation with a fellow fan around you. You might make a new friend!

5. DO visit the shops

Even if you don’t want to buy any souvenirs, or you can’t buy any, you should still definitely visit the shops. They are an attraction within themselves, especially Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and Honeydukes. Seeing all of these things brought to life in the shops will make you feel nostalgic for the series all over again.

6. DON’T be afraid to show House pride

Seriously, don’t be afraid of wearing your Harry Potter merch to the park. I guarantee there will always be someone there who is nerding out more than you are. The first time I went, I wanted to be cool (I was in a phase) so I didn’t wear anything Harry Potter themed to the park. That changed quickly because I bought a Gryffindor scarf and a Hogwarts pin so the whole cool phase left at the exact moment that that scarf became mine. So seriously, wear that awesome Ravenclaw beanie or that super cool Slytherin t-shirt. You’ll probably get lots of compliments on it, anyway.

7. DO talk to the Knight Bus conductor

20150602_143421(0)

I’m not exaggerating one bit when I say this was one of the highlights of my trip. He was hilarious and so was the shrunken head on the Knight Bus. Seriously, just wait for this guy and have a conversation with him. You won’t regret it.

8. DON’T miss the little Easter eggs hidden throughout the parks

There are tons of little curios from the movies scattered throughout both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. Make sure you look out for them so you don’t miss them!

9. DO try the butterbeer!

20150602_121918

Honestly, how could you not try the butterbeer? I would recommend trying it frozen, or in ice cream form, but any way that you try it, just try not to leave the park without getting at least one cup (or two…or three).

And those are my nine tips for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida!

I hope that if you’re planning a trip in the near or far future that it’s the best trip of your life and it lives up to every dream that you have about the parks!

See you then!

My Favorite Series of All Time!

Hello, readers!

So I haven’t actually read a book since I finished I’ll Give You the Sun.

As a book blogger, that sounds terrible, but I have a reason.

HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD COMES OUT IN EXACTLY ONE WEEK.

To prepare for this momentous occasion, I haven’t started any other book because I don’t want to have to drop it to start reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

I will also be posting one Harry Potter-themed post a day, including this one (which includes Harry Potter) and my life in the Harry Potter fandom.

So to fill the book-shaped hole in my heart, I thought I would tell you guys a little bit about my favorite series of all time (because obviously Harry Potter is one of them because it is my life).

So let’s get started!

Listed in no particular order:

1.) Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

As I said before, Harry Potter is obviously one of my favorite series of all time. I won’t go into it here, but a post later this week will tell you all about my experiences in the Harry Potter fandom and my life as a Harry Potter fan.

2. The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins

Oh man, do I love this series! If you’ve read some of my past book tags (and my about page), you’ll know how much I love Finnick Odair. He’s only part of what made this series one of my favorites. It’s amazing, and I love the writing. I wish Suzanne Collins would write a prequel to the series, or anything really just so I can read more of her fantastic writing.

3. The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare

This one could be an unpopular choice because I know a lot of fans of this series kind of turned against it because of Cassandra Clare and because of the two separate stories, but I love it. I was obsessed for about a year with this series, and Jace remains one of my favorite fictional characters and the one of the male characters that I would probably marry. I love this series, and it’s in my top favorite series of all time, even though I’m not a fan of Cassandra Clare at all.

4. Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan

It took me forever to read this series, but I love it. Luke Castellan is one of my favorite fictional characters, and this series put me through so many emotions that it’s pretty much impossible for it not to be on this list.

5. Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan

For me, you can’t have Percy Jackson and the Olympians without its spinoff series, Heroes of Olympus. I LOVE this series. I love this series more than PJO and that’s saying something. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Blood of Olympus, but the rest of the series is so amazing. This series is the reason that I started reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians because I wanted to finish it to get to this series. I can’t believe how much I love it, and I can’t wait to finally read Trials of Apollo when I buy it.

6. The Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater

This trilogy is home to my favorite book of all time, Shiver. Let me get something out there: there is nothing I don’t like about this series. Just like Harry Potter, there’s something about this series that feels like home to me. It’s amazing, and I encourage everyone to read (so the fandom can grow and be big enough to warrant me being super-involved in it like I am now).

8. Books of Faerie series by Maggie Stiefvater

Aha! A series that not even my friends would anticipate seeing on this list! I hardly ever talk about this series because every time that I do I get heartbroken that the third book will probably never be released (please, Maggie?). I read these when I first discovered Maggie Stiefvater, and now I can barely connect the two. I always, and I mean always, forget that this series is a Maggie Stiefvater series. It just doesn’t read to me like The Wolves of Mercy Falls or The Raven Cycle (which will not be appearing on this list, despite my love of the first book), but that does not make it any less beautiful. I highly encourage you to give this series a try, because it’s one of the most underrated series in the book community.

And that’s it for my favorite series of all time!

Some of my favorite series that I’ve talked about before, such as Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and TrueColors by Melody Carlson, aren’t on here because I haven’t finished them at this current time. Others aren’t on here because there are too many problems in the series that I just can’t overlook to call them my favorite series.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and comment below to tell me some of your favorite series!

Come back tomorrow for another Harry Potter-themed post!

See you then!
